Professor Ackerman and NU Fine Arts students unveil sculptural installation at Ice Follies 2025
GeneralFine Arts/Performing ArtsNipissing University third-year Fine Arts students, Ross Kozuskanich and Ellie Laberge recently collaborated with artist and Nipissing Associate Professor of Fine and Visual Arts, Andrew Ackerman, on a sculptural installation featured in the 2025 Ice Follies exhibition. Their piece, Fire and Flood, examined humanity’s fragile relationship with nature, exploring themes of climate change and resilience. The installation resonated with the festival's theme, Ozhaashikwaa (The Ice is Slippery), capturing the instability and vulnerability of the natural world amid unprecedented climatic change. -
Balancing passion, purpose and leadership on and off the ice
GeneralDurham Regional Police Constable and Lakers alumnus Frank Longo started on his academic path in criminal justice in his high school law classes, where he developed a passion for analyzing crime trends, criminal law, and psychology. At Nipissing University, he pursued a degree in Criminal Justice while also competing as a student-athlete. After graduating, he remained involved with Lakers athletics as a staff coach for the women's lacrosse team before launching his career in policing. -

Nipissing University receives $424,454 grant to enhance French as a second language teacher education
GeneralSchulich School of EducationNipissing University’s Schulich School of Education has been awarded $424,454 by the Government of Ontario under its French Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy (2021-2025) to advance French as a Second Language (FSL) teacher education and support. This funding builds on previous initiatives, further addressing the shortage of qualified FSL teachers across Ontario by developing innovative programming and strengthening teacher candidates' language proficiency and pedagogical skills.
Nipissing’s Fine Arts graduates showcase talent at WKP Kennedy Gallery exhibition
The culmination of years of creativity, exploration, and artistic growth will be on full display as Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) graduating class presents its final thesis exhibition at The Capitol Centre’s WKP Kennedy Gallery. Running from March 21 to April 4, 2025, this highly anticipated showcase will highlight the diverse and innovative work of emerging artists from the program.
