Associate Teacher Award

The Schulich School of Education appreciates the vital role that associate teachers play in modeling excellence in teaching and professionalism. While mentoring teacher candidates is a rewarding experience, it is also a tremendous commitment and responsibility. In an effort to recognize exemplary associate teachers, an Associate Teacher Award was established in 2013. Each year, four teachers are selected by the Practicum Committee to receive this award.

2023-2024 Award Winner

The following associate teachers were nominated and selected to receive the Associate Teacher Award:

  • Sylvie Gribbon (Near North District School Board)
  • Michelle Foglton (London District Catholic School Board)
  • Robin Doncaster (Upper Canada District School Board
  • Elizabeth Hart McKittrick (Upper Grand District School Board)

On June 3, 2024,  Dr. Daniel Jarvis, Associate Dean of BEd Programs (Interim), and Sandra Minor, Practicum Officer, had the pleasure to visit Sylvie Gribbon at Maple View Public School, to present her with the Associate Teacher Award at a staff meeting. It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to personally thank and applaud the valuable contribution Sylvie Gribbon has made as an associate teacher. Sylvie's teacher candidate nominated Sylvie for this important award for her ability to provide the freedom and resources for her teacher candidate to try new things and to apply their learning received at Nipissing University.
