As we get ready to embrace the new year, we would like to take a moment to celebrate and reflect on 2023 by highlighting some of the top stories from the past year:

Nipissing University joins Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine
January 10, 2023
Nipissing University has become a Knowledge & Development Partner of Bioenterprise Canada, known as Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations opens new doors into northern Ontario for the Engine’s national network and officer the Nipissing community, including agri-food and food-tech innovators, access to mentorship, partnership and funding support available through Bioenterprise Canada.

Social work education strengthened in North as School of Social Work at Nipissing University granted First Accreditation

Nipissing University’s School of Social Work has reached a new milestone, becoming the most recent program in Canada to be accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education’s (CASWE) Commission on Accreditation.

Province funds creation of innovation cluster
April 24, 2023
New funding from the Province of Ontario will grow intellectual property literacy within multiple institutions and ecosystems across Northern and rural areas of Ontario, including Nipissing University in North Bay. This funding, distributed by Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON), will foster the creation of a Northern and rural innovation cluster focused on critical minerals, cleantech, and battery electric technologies. Led by Laurentian, the partnership includes Lakehead, Trent, and Nipissing Universities and will provide $294,000 for the one-year pilot project.

Nipissing appoints Dr. Ann-Barbara Graff as Provost and Vice-President, Academic

Nipissing University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ann-Barbara Graff as Provost and Vice-President, Academic for a five-year term, beginning July 1, 2023.

Nipissing University launces new micro-credential promoting health and wellness in Anishinaabe communities

Nipissing University has launched a new, online micro-credential titled, Wiidooktaadyang (We are Helping One Another): Promoting health and Wellness in Anishinaabe Communities, focused on increasing knowledge of Indigenous health and wellness.

Nipissing Teaching Hub wins Catalyst Award

The Nipissing University Teaching Hub has been recognized with a Catalyst Award in the Teaching and Learning Category for its innovative use of Blackboard Learn to advance learning.

Nipissing, Trent, Lakehead, Laurentian Sign MOU to Enhance Impact of Research, Commercialization Activity

Four Ontario universities – Trent University, Laurentian University, Lakehead University, and Nipissing University – have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on enhancing collaboration and resource sharing on research and innovation initiatives to, ultimately, drive economic development in the province.

Nipissing University’s new strategic plan charts path for future generations

Today, Nipissing University officially unveiled its new strategic plan during a launch event held on its North Bay campus. The plan, entitled “Pathways: Our Commitments to Water, Land, and People for the Next Seven Generations at Nipissing University”, is the culmination of an extensive engagement process with Nipissing’s campus and regional communities that began in Fall 2022.

Nipissing researchers receive national funding to examine supports for Indigenous survivors of sexual assault

Nipissing University researchers Dr. Nancy Stevens, Assistant Professor of Indigenous, and Dr. Rosemary Nagy, Professor of Gender Equality and Social Justice, have been awarded a Partnership Engagement Grant valued at $24,829 from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) to further their research into available supports for Indigenous survivors of sexual assault.
