The Government of Canda has identified that the collaborative and open nature of research needs to be balanced with an open-eyed assessment of risk and safeguarding practices. With this direction, federal and provincial funding agencies now require universities to participate in the process of assessing and mitigating risks related to international collaborations.
What this means at NU
We value the important role that international collaborations have in furthering the work of researchers at NU and will continue to work to support productive and secure research collaborations. The Office of Research & Innovation is actively monitoring government updates and participating in sector-wide conversations, in order to prepare and support Nipissing University researchers with any newly established requirements. We encourage researchers to learn more through the resources available below and to contact our office if you have questions about what steps are appropriate for your research.
Resources for researchers
Information and tools about research security are available to researchers through the Government of Canada's Safeguarding Your Research website. Below are some of the most useful resources for understanding how to safeguard your own research.
Research security: "The ability to identify possible risks to your work through unwanted access, interference, or theft and the measures that minimize these risks and protect the inputs, processes, and products that are part of scientific research and discovery."
