Nipissing University receives $424,454 grant to enhance French as a second language teacher education
GeneralSchulich School of EducationNipissing University’s Schulich School of Education has been awarded $424,454 by the Government of Ontario under its French Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy (2021-2025) to advance French as a Second Language (FSL) teacher education and support. This funding builds on previous initiatives, further addressing the shortage of qualified FSL teachers across Ontario by developing innovative programming and strengthening teacher candidates' language proficiency and pedagogical skills. -
Nipissing University students and faculty collaborate on inclusive practices in disability and social work
GeneralSchool of Social WorkNipissing researchers are helping to shine a light on the importance of inclusivity in research. This commitment was on display at the PARN Research Camp, held this past October at Brock University’s St. Catharines campus, where students, researchers, and allies gathered to explore inclusive and participatory research methods. This immersive, three-day event shared insights and skills to improve research practices focused on enhancing the quality of life for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. -

Nipissing students bring innovation to North Bay’s fire hydrant inspections
GeneralThree students from Nipissing University’s Environment & Sustainability Post-Baccalaureate program recently presented their work on a geospatial interface for the City of North Bay’s fire hydrant inspections during a special event at City Hall. During the program, they acquired skills in geospatial technologies (GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing), an entirely new area for them given their diverse scientific backgrounds. -

Nipissing alumni honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medal for community impact
Two Nipissing University alumni have been recognized for their remarkable dedication to service with one of Canada’s most distinguished honours. Paige Trudeau-Shemilt (BBA ’15) and Macrina Perron (BA ’03) were awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a special ceremony on campus on April 25, 2025.
