With a severe winter storm in the forecast for tonight and through the weekend, Nipissing University’s campus will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2023 for the safety of students, faculty and staff. -

NU faculty, students participate in International Death Festival
GeneralLast month, Nipissing University was an official sponsor of the International 'Lifting the Lid' Death Festival. Dr. Susan Srigley, Professor and Program Chair of Religions and Cultures at Nipissing, partnered with her colleagues in the United Kingdom, Jo Dagless and Victoria Keen, who founded the event. . A total of 1300 people registered for the festival from 42 countries with 157 collaborators and presenters. -
Research on teachers’ mental health presented on national stage
GeneralResearchDr. Kristen Ferguson, Professor in the Schulich School of Education and Dr. Melissa Corrente, instructor in the Schulich School of Education’s Bachelor of Physical and Health Education program, presented their research and toolkit on teacher mental health to teachers’ federations across Canada at the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) National Staff Conference in Ottawa, November 16-18, 2022. -
Nipissing University celebrates pearl anniversary
GeneralToday marks a milestone anniversary for Nipissing University as it celebrates 30 years as an independent institution. With roots that extend back to the 1900s with the North Bay Normal School, Nipissing University, formally known as “Nipissing University College”, was an affiliate of Laurentian University. It received its charter as an independent university on December 10, 1992. -

Nipissing U launches national rare dementia support service
Today, Nipissing University celebrated the official launch of Rare Dementia Support (RDS) Canada, a national support service for people living with rare or young onset dementia led by Dr. Mary Pat Sullivan, Professor of Social Work and Social Gerontology. -

Lakers Break the Ice on Mental Health event raises $17,500
GeneralLakers Break the Ice on Mental Health, an annual fundraiser led by Nipissing University’s Sport Marketing class, raised $17,500 for the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) Foundation and Nipissing University’s outreach program, NU Listens. The fundraiser utilized sport and community spirit to raise awareness for mental health while encouraging needed conversations. The main event, featured the Lakers varsity hockey teams and drew almost 1000 fans to enjoy exciting hockey and support students’ fundraising efforts. -
NU instructor receives CASN Nursing Education Excellence Award
School of NursingGeneralThe Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) has announced that Laura Killam is the recipient of the 2022 CASN Nursing Education Excellence (Non-Tenured) Award. Killam is a part-time instructor at Nipissing University in the Registered Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. She was presented with this award on Monday, November 21 at CASN’s virtual Awards Recognition Event.
