Panel discussing English degree careers
The English department at Nipissing University is offering students a vocational panel to answer the age-old question of What can I do with an English Degree? on March 9, at 4:30 p.m. in room B208.The panel features a collection of English grads all working in different fields. Panelists include: Angela Fera, executive assistant Nipissing University Faculty Association; Bob Pipe, communications officer at Nipissing University; Samantha Kurtzer, technical writer at FDM4 International Inc.; and Rebecca Kasperavicius, Academic Librarian in the Harris Learning Library.
"In English, we want to offer guidance to our students who keep hearing that they graduate with lots of qualities employers want -- flexible thinking, problem solving, strong communication ability, curiosity and creativity -- but are wondering how that translates into an actual job. The panel is a start at helping students to think creatively about how to turn their deep learning in English into directly marketable job skills. Our panelists are all professionals who have carved out rewarding careers that utilize an English degree and I think they will offer students some great insights into how to get from the classroom to the workplace," said Dr. Gyllian Phillips, associate professor and English department Chair.
