New book for Dr. McCann
Congratulations to Dr. Gillian McCann, associate professor of Religions and Cultures, on the publication of the new book she has co-written with Gitte Bechsgaard. The Sacred in Exile: What it Really Means to Lose Our Religion, is published by Palgrave Macmillan.
It addresses the fact that for the first time in history a significant number of people in countries like Canada are living without any form of religious belief. The authors examine the implications of this change from the perspective of the psychology and sociology of religion. This book sits at nexus of a number of important debates including the role of religion in public life, the connection between religion and physical and psychological health, and the implications of the loss of ritual in terms of maintaining community life.
