New students welcomed to NU
Some 350 new students got the jump on their first year at Nipissing University last week during New Student Orientation (NSO), and from all accounts, the event was a smashing success.
NSO provides first-year students the opportunity to meet with their future professors and peers, as well as academic advisors and other key staff while getting an overview of academic requirements. Students and their families receive a tour of the campus, residences and learn about the support services, resources, educational and extra-curricular opportunities available to them as Nipissing students.
Each NSO day also includes student and parent sessions in which current students and university administrators answer questions about Nipissing University, North Bay and first year experiences and expectations.
Nipissing estimates more than 750 people visited the university and the City of North Bay for NSO.
“We received a lot of positive feedback from students and families,” said Adam McLandress a current Psychology student who helped organize NSO. “It’s an exciting time for new students and their families. Students started making friends almost immediately and some of the nervousness about starting university was relaxed by the welcoming environment that exists here. Thank you to all the volunteers, students, faculty and staff at Nipissing, and the entire North Bay community for everything they did to help welcome our guests.”
The next steps for first-year students at Nipissing is to enjoy the summer and get ready forLakers Orientation August 27, and the start of the school year.
