CIC presents defence discussion with Dr. Dorn
The Nipissing Branch of the Canadian International Council (CIC) is pleased to announce a special presentation by Dr. Walter Dorn, titledCanada, the Once and Future Peacekeeper? on Monday, June 27, from 7 – 9 p.m. in room A122.
Drawing on his expertise in defence issues, Dr. Dorn will reflect on Canadian peacekeeping in the twentieth and twenty-first century.
Dr. Dorn is a professor of Defence Studies at the Royal Military College of Canada and the Canadian Forces College, where he also serves as Chair of the Master of Defence Studies program and the Deputy Director for Graduate Studies. He previously was Chair of the Department of Security and International Affairs, and Deputy Director for Outreach and Community Development. From 2008 – 2013, he was also Chair of Canadian Pugwash, an organization of physical, life and social scientists seeking to reduce the threats to global security.
At the Canadian Forces College Dr. Dorn teaches officers of rank Major to Brigadier-General from Canada and over 20 other countries in the areas of arms control, Canadian foreign/defence policy, peace operations and international security.
He has written several books, includingKeeping Watch: Monitoring, Technology, and Innovation in UN Peace Operations, and most recently edited the volume, Air Power in UN Operations: Wings for Peace. He is hoping to soon complete a book on a broader theme, possibly titledThe Emerging Global Watch: UN Monitoring for International Peace and Human Security, which will analyse the expansion of the monitoring of conflicts, ceasefires, elections, human rights, sanctions, enforcement and global security generally.
