Remembering Dr. David Liddle

Nipissing University offers condolences to the family and friends of Dr. David Liddle, who passed away on January 22.

A successful and generous business leader with tremendous vision, Liddle was also a strong advocate and ambassador for Nipissing University.  He gave more than 25 years of service to Nipissing as a member of the Board of Governors from 1989-99 and as a Board Chair from 1994-97. Devoted to building a strong university, he was appointed Nipissing University’s second Chancellor in 2002, and was reappointed for a second term in 2006.

During his eight years as Chancellor, he conferred over 9,000 degrees, including 51 honorary degrees, at 47 Convocation ceremonies. Nipissing bestowed Liddle with an honorary degree, the university’s highest honour, in 2011; he recorded this short video for Nipissing about the honour. Liddle was an instrumental leader in the success of the university’s Learning Library campaign, serving as Campaign Co-Chair. 

Liddle’s lifetime commitment to volunteer service included positions as Chair of the Wawa Chamber of Commerce, President of the Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association, President of the Rotary Club of Wawa, Vice-President of the Northern Ontario Outfitters Association, member and later President of the North Bay Rotary Club, and original member of the North Bay Economic Development Commission. 

The university expresses sincere sympathies to the Liddle family and honours the tremendous contribution Dr. Liddle made to this institution.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Visitations are scheduled at Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld Street in North Bay) on Thursday, January 29, from 7 – 9 p.m.; Friday, January 30, from 2 -4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m.

A service will be held in the Nipissing University Theatre (room F213), on Saturday, January 31, at 2 p.m.
