Congratulations to Dr. Leslie Wardley

??Congratulations to Nipissing’s Dr. Leslie Wardley, assistant professor in the School of Business on earning a national dissertation award for outstanding Ph.D. thesis work in Canada.

Dr. Wardley presented her award winning thesis research on June 1 at the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education's annual conference.  She was a recipient of the CSSHE's prestigious George L. Geis 2015 Ph.D. Dissertation Award.  The overall criterion for selection for this national Ph.D. thesis award was research excellence with importance placed on overall significance, substance, and distinctiveness.

In her winning thesis, The Current University Focus: An Emphasis On Providing Customer Services Over Engagement? Dr.Wardley investigated the importance of getting students involved in the co-creation of their university experiences. The findings offer new insight into college transfer students, helicopter parenting, classes not being viewed as intellectually stimulating and issues created by not severing ties to prior support systems. The conceptual Student Engagement Work Design Model (SEWDM) provides a roadmap when attempting to predict institutional commitment and personal growth needs.
