Artist Alison Norlen on campus for talk

Nipissing University’s department of Fine Arts and North Bay’s Line Gallery welcome Alison Norlen, artist and professor of drawing and painting at the University of Saskatchewan, for an artist talk on Friday, September 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Monastery Hall. Norlen’s drawing and sculpture practice is motivated by her fascination with cultural spectacles, idyllic environments, and real existing and diminished architectures and landscapes. Her work captures architectural structures - piers, bridges, palaces and world fair remnants in the midst of construction or the verge of collapse.

Norlen's work has been exhibited in the Mendel Art Gallery, National Gallery of Canada and the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. She has also earned international artist residencies in Trinidad and Paris from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Her exhibition, titled mirari, opens this Friday, September 18, from 7 - 9:30 p.m. at the Line Gallery in conjunction with the Downtown Gallery Hop.

Norlen will be attending the opening. Her drawings will be on display until October 30.

Both events are free of charge and everyone is welcome.
