NU Muskoka students raise awareness for violence against women

Two students at Nipissing’s Muskoka campus recently worked in partnership with the Muskoka Parry Sound Coordinated Sexual Assault Services to plan a series of events to bring awareness to the topic of violence against women.
Laura Cameron, a 4th-year Child and Family Studies student and Avery Saunter, a 3rd-year Child and Family Studies student, were eager to participate.  Thanks in part to their hard work and dedication, a number of events took place, including: Guest speakers Jeff Perera from the White Ribbon Campaign and Alison Irons, the mother of Lindsay Wilson, a Nipissing student who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend; a Coffee house with singers from the Muskoka campus as well as outside groups, and a flash mob for 1 billion rising.

As a result their success organizing these events, Cameron and Saunter were asked to speak at the upcoming Domestic Abuse Resource Team (DART) conference in Port Carling on March 20.?
