Tough road trip for Lakers soccer

The Lakers soccer teams had a tough weekend in the big smoke as both teams dropped a pair of games to Toronto and Ryerson.On Saturday, the women’s team put in a solid effort against Toronto; however, in the end the only goal by Toronto’s Aisha Lewis at 56th minute was the difference in the match.  The Lakers Carlee Bennard made twelve saves in the loss.
Sunday, the Lakers contained the Ryerson offence to only seven shots on goal. Ryerson’s Nicole Paiva scored the only goal of the contest at the 21-minute mark, while the Lakers offence was held to only two shots on goal.
On the men’s side, the Lakers were in tough against Toronto Saturday and it didn’t take long for the home team to find the mark as Veljko Lukovic opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game. 
Ryan Mantle responded for the Lakers, tying the contest, before Ezequiel Lubocki put Toronto up 2-1 at the half. 
Toronto would put the game away in the second half when Mario Kovacevic  and Nikolay Saveliev added goals as the Lakers dropped a 4-1 decision.
Sunday, the Lakers were looking to respond; however, Ryerson managed three goals in 10 minutes to break the game wide open and take a 3-0 lead into half. The Lakers defence managed to hold off the Rams attack and Brandon TeBrake found the back of the mesh to give the Lakers some life.
The Lakers pressed hard to put the game within one goal; however, Greg Wise put the game out-of-reach with his goal in the 78th minute. The Rams upended the Lakers 4-1.
The Lakers allowed an uncharacteristic eight goals in two games.
The Lakers will be looking to respond as they host RMC and Queen’s this weekend at the Education Centre Field.
