Nipissing University’s varsity Nordic team is excited to announce the addition of Shelby Dickey to the women’s squad for the 2013-14 season. Dickey brings self-discipline and enthusiasm for the sport from time spent as a full-time skier, and is now looking to fulfill her goals academically and athletically. She is a technically sound, strong skier, who will put the team in contention at the front of the pack. Dickey chose Nipissing because of the seamless integration of sport and studies that the university offers. “I became interested in Nipissing a few years ago when I attended the Northern Ontario Division training camp. We trained at the university and I immediately loved the campus and the trails,” she said. “The more I heard about the school the more I wanted to be a part of it and in the end, I chose Nipissing.” Dickey will continue to represent the province on the Ontario Ski Team while skiing for Nipissing Nordic. In terms of prospects for the year ahead, Dickey will be studying in the Bachelor of Physical Health and Education program and is looking forward to the prospect of learning more in the field of sports science, a course of study will build on her experiences as a ski racer. “The highlights in my life have been from spending time with my high school ski team, my club team (Highlands Trailblazers), and the provincial team, so I am stoked to join the Lakers and make new memories,” she said.  “I am looking forward to getting the full university experience and becoming a part of one of the best universities in the province.”
