Podstawka to bolster Lakers line-up

Nipissing University Lakers men’s volleyball head coach Eric Yung is pleased to announce that Tom Podstawka will join the Lakers program in the Fall of 2012. Podstawka is transferring from York University to complete his major in Geography with the goal of attending the Schulich School of Education.Podstawka, a 6’2” outside hitter from Ancaster, Ontario, brings a wealth of experience including two years in the OUA playing for the York Lions where he was named an OUA Rookie All-Star in 2008. He led his Ancaster High School team to five consecutive city championships as well as an OFSAA bronze. He played club volleyball with the M.A.C. Volleyball Club from 2005-2007.
Podstawka is also a very accomplished beach volleyball player, capturing multiple provincial gold titles along with two national gold 21U titles. He has qualified for three World Beach Volleyball Championships, with a best result of fifth place in England in 2007.
"I am extremely excited to have Tom bring his impressive volleyball experience to our program,” said Yung. “Tom can play numerous positions and will add to our leadership core.  He works extremely hard on and off the court and will play a huge role in our program for the next two years."
The Lakers finished with a17-1 regular season record and captured their first ever OCAA provincial medal with a second-place finish. The Lakers will look to take the next step and capture the men’s program first provincial championship banner in 2012-13.
