NU Reads is getting ready for another year of nurturing a love of literacy in children through reading groups and one-on-one discussions and activities, and you can help.Entering its fifth year, NU Reads is holding NU Books, a book and supplies drive to develop a mini-library and resource bank for the program. On September 14 and 17 look for NU Books in the Education Centre hallway, raising funds and collecting supplies and books for the program. It’s also a great chance to connect with the group if you are looking to volunteer. They are looking to collect children’s picture books, construction paper, markers, crayons, rulers, glue and craft supplies.
On Saturday, September 15, NU Reads volunteers will also be at the Northgate Shopping Centre’s Community Booth. This is another location where supplies can be donated andparents and community members can stop by to get more information about the program or come with their children to read books from the NU Reads Library.
This year marks an expansion of NU Reads, with the addition of NUmeracy programming in the fall semester, with literacy programming continuing to run in the winter semester. Any supplies for either of these programs is greatly appreciated.
Programming is free of charge.
