Lakers hockey win pink and in white

The Nipissing Lakers hockey team skated to two preseason wins last weekend, defeating the UOIT Ridgebacks 6-4, and the Guelph Gryphons 3-1.On Friday night, in annual the Real Men Wear pink game, the Lakers had their hands full against a young and determined UOIT squad in front of the 2,200 fans in attendance. The score was deadlocked 2-2 after two and stayed close in the third period with teams trading goals before the Lakers finally managed to jump ahead in the final two minutes off the stick of veteran sniper Andrew Marcoux.
Jason Gray, Nick Esposito, Grant Toulmin, Marcus Watson and Lucas McKinley notched the other goals for the Lakers, who wore pink jerseys for the game in support of Breast Cancer research. The jerseys were raffled off following the game.
Against Guelph on Saturday night, the Lakers goalie Dan Spence earned first star honours for some big saves at key moments to preserve the win.
Marcus Watson, Sam Hopewell and Jeff Leaist provided the scoring for the Lakers.
