Heritage Fair at Nipissing

Nipissing hosted the seventh annual North Bay Regional Heritage Fair on Friday, May 4, in the Education Centre Gymnasium. The university welcomed local students from grades 4 – 9 in both English and French school boards to share their projects showcasing the history, geography and heritage of our community, province and country.This year 120 students attended, and the fair featured more than 110 projects.
The students chosen to represent North Bay at the Provincial Fair are:River Evans, a grade 5 student from JW Trussler for the project History of the Pow Wow, andVanessa Caprero-Arpino, a grade 5 student from St Luke School, for the project, Viola Desmond.
The Heritage Fair Program encourages students to explore Canadian heritage in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment. The featured projects will be in English or in French. Students use the medium of their choice to tell stories about Canadian heroes, legends, milestones and achievements. They present the results of their research at a public exhibition. Since its beginning in 1993, the Heritage Fair Program has grown to include more than 275,000 students across Canada each year.
This year the Heritage Fair also welcomed Wayne Hugli, coordinator with the Ontario Heritage Fairs Association. He presented Richard Cazabon, Chair of North Bay Heritage Fair with an authentic Hudson Bay blanket as a thank you for the success of the local fair.
