The Lakers men’s volleyball program is pleased to announce the commitment of Eric Girard and Michael Ballagh to attend Nipissing University in the fall of 2012.“I am very excited to have Michael and Eric join our program,” said head coach Eric Yung. “I am hoping they will make immediate impact on our program. Along with couple of returning left-sides, they will be competing to be in the starting six.”
Girard, a 6’3” left-side hitter, played high school volleyball for College Catholique Franco-Ouest, and club volleyball for the Ottawa Fusion. He will major in English.
“Nipissing has a great volleyball program, great residences and lots of one-on-one interaction with the professors,” said Girard. “I am looking forward to going to school where my parents grew up.”
Yung added that he was incredibly impressed with Girard`s ability during a training session over the Christmas break. “Eric brings a fury of energy to the court and has great physical attributes for our level of play,” said Yung.
Ballagh, also a 6’1” left-side hitter, is enrolled in the Bachelor of Physical Health and Education program with the goal of becoming a teacher. He led his Madill Secondary School team to an OFSAA (AA) antique bronze in 2010 and a bronze medal in 2011.
“Michael is an extremely athletic left-side that should stabilize our ball control and contribute to our potent offence,” said Yung.
