The fingerprints of Nipissing University alumni are all over the upcoming Doc North Documentary Film Festival, running August 17 – 19, 2012, at the Capitol Centre in North Bay.Alumnus Nathan Snider (BA’09 in History and Religions and Cultures) is the festival coordinator, while alumnae Holly Cunningham (BA’09 in Fine Arts) is the director of the Near North Mobile Media Lab, the group that is presenting the festival.
As well, retired Nipissing University professor, Bill Plumstead’s film Harold and Lorna: World Water Speed Champions, will close out the festival on Sunday night. The film chronicles the almost-forgotten exploits of Harold and Lorna Wilson, who raced their Miss Canada boats into international fame, made Canadians proud and racing fans everywhere stand up and cheer.
Doc North is a three-day film festival presenting Canadian documentary cinema with a focus on Northern story-telling and tradition. From the Capitol Centre theatre, the festival presents a wide variety of programs including industry panels, artist discussions, family oriented screenings, and a youth documentary competition. Doc North aims to inspire the art of visual story-telling in our region of Canada through education and presentation of quality films hailing from coast to Canadian coast.
Tickets and wristbands for Doc North are available here.
A kick-off party for the festival gets rolling at the Raven and Republic on Thursday, August 16.
