Nipissing offering training for Asperger Syndrome
Nipissing University is hosting a training session for staff and faculty that will provide tools for communicating with students who have Asperger Syndrome.
The session takes place on August 25 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. in room R308/R309. It will be offered again on September 7 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. in room F213.
Peggy Sakuluk, school support program — autism spectrum disorder consultant with Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca, will lead the session.
People diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome have difficulty interpreting non-verbal forms of communication, difficulty relating to others socially, and the inability to read the thoughts and feelings of others.
“Student success is our number one goal at Nipissing University so it is important that we provide the tools for our staff and faculty to communicate effectively with all our students,” said Daralynn D’Angelo, a learning strategist in disability services in Nipissing’s office of student development and success.
