York Regional Police- Police Constable
To perform the duties set out as for a police constable. To preserve peace, protect property and be visible and engaged in the community; provide safety education and support to the community in crime prevention; public order; assist the victims of crime; investigate offences and provide emergency response to ensure the safety and security of our community and to fulfill our organizational values.
POSITION DUTIES:
- Respond to emergencies and calls for policing service
- Safety operate police vehicles
- Federal, provincial and municipal law enforcement
- Process offenders and participation in their prosecution
- Provide court testimony
- Effective workflow management
- Evidence management
- Fulsome and accurate notetaking
- Communicate effectively with diverse communities
- Traffic law enforcement
- Motor vehicle collision investigations
- Proficiently use computer/smart technologies, and programs essential to the role (MWS/Computers/Versadex/Word)
- Create accurate and concise reports for a wide variety of incidents
- Create and complete accurate tickets and other legislative/YRP forms
- Understand own role and the organization’s reporting structure
- Critical thinking and de-escalation skills
- Effective/proper radio etiquette
- Providing guidance to new/junior officers
- Engage and education of public through interactions and proactive policing
- Report to duty, fit for duty on time
- Maintain integrity and professionalism
- Effectively conduct interviews/investigations with complainant, victims, subject and accused
- Making observations/recording intelligence gathering, collection of evidence, confidential human source cultivation, warrant execution for investigations
- Assisting victims of crime
- Attend and successfully complete training and yearly requalification
- Participate in District initiatives
- Investigate and enforce complaint areas
- Mental health crisis support and provide community resource to public
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
When applying for the position of police constable with York Regional Police, you must meet the following criteria to be considered in the selection process:
- Have no criminal record for which you have not received a pardon and be of good moral character and habits
- Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada and at least 18 years-old
- Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position
- Have proof of successful completion of four years of secondary school education or equivalency
- Possess valid standard or emergency first aid and CPR Level C certification, at minimum
- Possess a valid Ontario driver’s licence class G, at minimum
- Possess a valid OACP Certificate of Results including proof of meeting the vision and hearing standards as defined by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP)
York Regional Police Careers Portal
New in 2023, police constable applicants must submit their applications using the new York Regional Police Careers Portal. The portal allows applicants to create a profile that includes all background information, relevant and required certifications and employment and education history in one place.
Before you apply:
Collect all mandatory documents
Before you submit an application, ensure you have all mandatory documents completed and ready to upload to your careers profile. Applications will not be processed until all mandatory documents are uploaded successfully.
Mandatory documents include:
- Resume
- Cover letter
- Copy of valid Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate of Results
- Fitness logs and valid hearing and vision results meeting standard are required
- Copies of Emergency or Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level ‘C’ Certificate
- These certifications must remain valid throughout the Constable Selection Process
- Copies of secondary school diploma and transcripts
- Applicants who completed secondary school outside of Canada will require an equivalency certificate
- Copies of any post-secondary diplomas and transcripts
- Applicants who completed post-secondary programs outside of Canada will require an equivalency certificate
- Completed Consent and Release of Liability
- Completed Confidential Applicant Survey
Create a profile
All applicants must first create a profile on the Careers Portal. To create a profile:
- Enter the Careers Portal
- Select "View Careers Profile" at the top-right side of the screen
- Select "Create an account" on the sign-in page and complete all mandatory fields
- Once all mandatory fields are completed, select "Create Account"
- Select "My Documents" to begin uploading mandatory documents
- Open each drop-down to begin entering additional information, such as previous application details, volunteer work history, etc. All documents and additional information in your profile will be automatically included in your application.
