POSITION TITLE: Summer Housekeeping Coordinator Assistant

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week
RATE OF PAY: $17.20 per hour + Vacation as determined by HR policy

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Summer Housekeeping Coordinator Assistant works closely with the Housekeeping Coordinator/Caretaker to assist with summer accommodation operations. The Summer Housekeeping Coordinator Assistant is not only part of a team but also responsible for supporting, training and providing direction to the team. The Summer Housekeeping Coordinator Assistant will be following up with daily work, monitoring progress and completing inspections of cleaned spaces. The Summer Housekeeping Coordinator Assistant will also be responsible for daily cleaning responsibilities of the residences at Nipissing University. They are responsible for supporting the deep cleaning of each residence room, summer accommodation turnovers for guest rooms and room setups as required. The Summer Housekeeping Coordinator Assistant could also be providing daily housekeeping service to guests staying in residence over the summer. During busy times, the Summer Housekeeping Coordinator Assistant may be required to work up to 44 hours per week.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
This position will assist with the following duties:
- Assist the Housekeeping Coordinator/Caretaker with daily tasks
- Assist with housekeeping training, following up with daily tasks and monitoring supplies
- Assist with overseeing work completed by members of the housekeeping team and be a ‘lead’ hand
- Assist with cleaning residence common areas daily (includes lobbies, laundry rooms, offices, public washrooms etc.)
- Assist with room set-ups as required by conference clients in the residence buildings
- Assist with cleaning and turnover of residence bedrooms as required for summer guests (includes cleaning, bed making)
- Assist with cleaning and turnover of townhouses or apartments as required for summer guests (includes cleaning bathrooms, common areas, kitchens, garbage removal etc.)
- Provide daily housekeeping services for groups (daily bed making, towel change and suite cleaning)
- Assist with supporting annual ‘deep cleaning’ program (e.g. window cleaning, vent and duct cleaning, upholstery and carpet cleaning, washing curtains, etc.)
- Report any deficiencies or damages of residence rooms, apartment units and buildings in a timely and efficient manner
- Assist with complex turn over (cleaning and preparation) from the academic year to the summer accommodation season and back to academic year at the end of the summer (includes refrigerators, stoves, toilets, etc.)
- Assist with moving furniture/equipment as required
- Assist with general outdoor maintenance (includes removal of garbage, weeding, etc.)
- Provide tourist information and general North Bay information to visitors and guests
- Other related duties as required
Sample Work Division:
- 70% housekeeping and annual ‘deep clean’ program; 30% other related duties
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Leadership skills
- Previous experience in a leadership role and/or with summer accommodations/hotel industry considered an asset
- Excellent organizational skills
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills

- Must be able to lift awkward equipment weighing up to 25 kilograms
- Able to work rotating shifts
- Availability to work weekends and holidays (i.e. Canada Day, Civic Holiday, etc.)
- Must not be taking spring, evening or summer continuing education credits, or be engaged by any other agency due to the scheduling of shift work (online courses would be acceptable if they would not interfere with shift scheduling)
- Must provide a copy of a current negative Criminal Reference Check at time of hiring
- Must have valid ‘G’ License
