Hours:
Three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory work per week for one term.

Course Description:
Physical and chemical properties of aldehydes/ketones, carboxylic acid family, dicarbonyls, amines, phenols, and other aromatic compounds. A special emphasis on reaction mechanisms as well as spectroscopic methods for identification of organic compounds. Additional topics as time permits. Laboratory experiments focus primarily on synthesis of organic compounds and their detection using spectroscopic techniques.
Duties:
- Responsible for all instruction and evaluation for the portion of the course to which they are assigned
- Will be available to meet with students outside of the official classroom time
- Complete mandatory training requirements, review and follow Nipissing University's policies and procedures
Additional Duties:
- Teaching lab component of organic II course (CHEM 2307)
- Demonstrating lab techniques to the students
- Grading lab reports
- Maintaining a safe working environment in the lab
Qualifications:
- A Master of Science in Chemistry, or related area, is required.
- The potential candidate should have sound knowledge of functional groups, organic reaction mechanisms, NMR spectroscopy and nomenclature of organic compounds.
