Manager, Academic Projects and Planning

Full Time Administration – 12 month contract

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Manager, Academic Projects and Planning is responsible for a range of strategic and operational functions in alignment with the University's Strategic and Academic Plans. The portfolio of the Office of the Provost includes research, teaching and community engagement to support academic achievement and excellence.   

In consultation with members of academic administration, the Manager oversees the initiatives that further the academic strategic direction of the university.  Contributing expertise and experience in higher education pedagogy and program design, the Manager reviews, analyzes and synthesizes information on issues related to the academic mission and presents options and recommendations to the Provost and other academic leaders, including chairs and faculty members. Under the direction of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Manager oversees projects that further the academic mission of the university.

The Manager plays a central role in the Academic Planning process, organizing and synthesizing materials for the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, and other academic committees. They also organize the entire consultation process and are responsible for contributing widely to the writing of document drafts and the final copy.

The Manager’s key responsibilities include managing the daily operations of the Provost’s Office and supporting the Provost to achieve the objectives outlined in the Academic Plan. This includes fostering cultural change, upholding procedural integrity and transparency, promoting a sense of welcome and belonging, advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA), contributing to the Indigenization of the University, and facilitating data-informed, systematic decision making.

The Manager will work with the Faculties on project planning and coordination, annual progress reviews, and strategic communication to ensure alignment with institutional goals. The Manager will conduct data analysis to provide valuable insights for decision-making and prepare critical documents such as reports, presentations, policies, and discussion papers to meet the institution’s evolving needs. They will handle sensitive and complex situations with sound judgment and professionalism, serving as the primary point of contact for matters related to the Provost. 

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in a relevant discipline, with a demonstrated focus on Communication and Public Relations. A minimum of five years of recent, related experience in a university environment is required and knowledge of and engagement in quality assurance processes, academic program and curriculum changes, and active involvement in supporting academic and institutional change initiatives.
