POSITION TITLE:                           Academic Student Program (ASP) Student Assistant

HOURS OF WORK:                       Average of 10 hours per week

RATE OF PAY:                                 $17.20/hour plus Vacation Pay as determined by HR Policy

JOB DESCRIPTION:        

The Academic Success Program Student Facilitator will assist with providing academic support to their peers through academic coaching and workshop delivery. The Facilitators act as mentors by challenging, supporting, and guiding students towards academic and personal success by identifying their personal strengths and creating a plan of action to address their academic concerns.    

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Recruiting students (including those who are academically at-risk) to the Academic Success Program through a call/e-mail campaign and various outreach initiatives;
  • Developing individualized Academic Success Plans with program participants; 
  • Conducting one-on-one meetings with assigned students to monitor progress and provide resources and referrals; 
  • Facilitate and promote Student Success;  
  • Researching and data gathering relating to best practices within student development and services; 
  • Creation of dynamic and engaging social media marketing to support student success; 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including in-service opportunities provided by the department;  
  • Completion of utilization and satisfaction reports; and 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program
  • Student (2nd year and above) with strong academic standing (cumulative average of 75% or higher). 
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality. 
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds. 
  • Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success. 
  • Be available for a minimum 6 hours per week during 8:30-4:30 timeslot
