Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS D) and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships

The Social Science & Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) offers two streams of awards through one application.

The Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship - Doctoral (CGS D) and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships programs seek to develop research skills and assist in the training of highly-qualified personnel (HQP) in the social sciences and humanities. Applicants to the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship - Doctoral (CGS D) award will automatically be considered for the Doctoral Fellowship. The CGS-D is offered to the top-ranked applicants; the next tier of meritorious applicants will be offered the Fellowship.

Fellowship Value:  $20,000 a year for 1 to 4 years

Application Deadline (directly to SSHRC): October 17, 2022

Application Deadline (through a Canadian Institution):  November 1, 2022.

Eligibility:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada

An applicant must print the web-based application and, together with all the required documents, including transcripts and references, submit it to the School of Graduate Studies by the internal application deadline.

Important note: Both the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships and the Canada Graduate Scholarships—Doctoral Scholarships (CGS-D) are offered through a single annual national competition. Applicants should refer to the online descriptions for each award to determine their eligibility to apply to and hold each award, as there are notable differences. Applicants eligible for both the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships and the CGS-D Scholarships will automatically be considered for both awards. Only one application is required for consideration of one or both awards.
