Near North Voices presents evening of shared choral music
Continuing the success of the Sharing Our Choral Art concert series, Near North Voices – North Bay’s University-Community Choir – is pleased to welcome the Paisley Concert Choir from Paisley, Ontario, and the North Bay’s own Heartbeat Quartet, for an evening of shared choral music on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church in North Bay.Conducted by Linda Finlay, the unauditioned, 50-voice Paisley Concert Choir has served Grey and Bruce Counties since 2001. Their broad repertoire includes classical art music, broadway, popular and world musics.
Formed in 2002, The Heartbeat Quartet performs upbeat and modern four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style. They have appeared as guests at various musical shows, and also entertain individuals and groups who are celebrating special occasions.
Begun in 2011, the goal of the Sharing Our Choral Art concert series is to broaden the community’s understanding and enjoyment of choral music by bringing “a world of choirs” to North Bay. Near North Voices and the guest ensemble(s) each perform their own set of pieces, followed by a combined choral finale. This series has included a number of firsts for North Bay and area, including the first ever performances by international choirs – the Czech Boys’ Choir and the Chamber Singers of St. Mary’s University Minnesota; the first concert by an LGBTQ choir – Singing Out, Toronto’s LGBTQ Community Chorus; and multiple performances by the Toronto-based professional choir the Elmer Iseler Singers.
