Since graduation, Yung has remained an active member of the Nipissing community. He is currently Head Coach of the Lakers Men’s Volleyball program and is also an instructor in Nipissing’s Bachelor of Physical Health Education program. He says the fact that he is a Nipissing alumnus, lends credibility when he is recruiting student-athletes to the University.

“I have spent more time in the R.J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre than anywhere else, including my house,” joked Yung.

Recognizing that the Nipissing Lakers Men’s Volleyball program has developed and maintained strong relationships with its alumni, Yung joined the Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board in 2021 to help build those relationships at the institutional level as well as learn new strategies to strengthen Nipissing’s relationship with alumni. NUAAB provides support for alumni programs, communications, events, branch and chapter outreach, scholarships, and initiatives.

In addition to serving as a member of NUAAB, Yung has also supported Nipissing through giving. He decided to make his first gift to the University when he realized that Nipissing, specifically the Athletics department, provided him with a platform for him to discover his passion. Through philanthropy, he hopes to create opportunities for the next generation.

For those considering attending Nipissing for their post-secondary education, Yung would like others to know that Nipissing is a small school with big opportunities.

“I believe my time as a varsity athlete eventually led me to taking up coaching and developing a passion for helping others grow,” said Yung.  During his time at Nipissing, he made life-long friends and through a teammate of his, met his wife. Yung also owns a sports academy for developing athletes called Yung Gunz Academy and sits on the board for the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame. He is a husband (Crystal), father of two (Lilyia and Myles) and proud dog owner.
