Near North Voices performs musical comedy Primadonna Choralis

Near North Voices – North Bay’s University-Community Choir – will complete their 10th season with a concert entitled A Canadian Choral Celebration, featuring the epically hilarious Primadonna Choralis, created by and guest-starring well-known Canadian performers Mary Lou Fallis and Peter Tiefenbach. Primadonna Choralis continues Fallis & Tiefenbach’s cycle of satirical shows featuring Fallis’ character “Primadonna”, who pokes fun at the world of classical music through the eyes of an opera diva. Primadonna Choralis is presented as a comedic lecture-concert about the history of choral singing from pre-history to the present.

“Near North Voices has presented a lot of serious works that have made our audiences think, and wonder, and cry, (and occasionally clap on beats 1 and 3), but this will be our first excursion into theatrical choral satire; it’s time to make people laugh, and to laugh at ourselves,” said Dr. Adam Adler, artistic director of Near North Voices and assistant professor of music education at Nipissing University.

A Canadian Choral Celebration will also feature Canadian works from French Canada, the east and west coasts, and from Canada’s civic history.
“As we celebrate the completion of our 10th season of musical innovation in North Bay, we are also celebrating Canada’s sesquicentennial, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than in the company of such notable Canadian musicians”, said Dr. Adler.

A Canadian Choral Celebration will take place on Saturday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Andrew’s United Church, 399 Cassells St., North Bay. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for post-secondary students with valid student I.D., available at Gulliver’s Quality Books and Toys on Main St., and at the door.
