More money for student entrance scholarships
Good news for students enrolling at Nipissing University this fall, as the university has increased the value of its guaranteed entrance scholarships.
Incoming students with secondary school averages of 84.5 - 89.4 per cent will receive $2,500 in guaranteed entrance scholarships, an increase of $250 per scholarship. Students with a secondary school average of 80 - 84.4 now receive $1,500 in guaranteed entrance scholarships, an increase of $250 per scholarship.
Those scholarships are also renewable for four years of study, based on maintaining a minimum grade point average.
These scholarships augment Nipissing’s President’s Scholarships, which provide free tuition for students who earn a 90 per cent average in secondary school.
Nipissing has also altered some of the renewal criteria for scholarships available to returning students, reducing the number of completed credits necessary for scholarships to be renewed.
"We are very pleased to see the university taking steps to ease the financial burden on students, not only upon their entrance to their post-secondary education but also throughout their time here at Nipissing University with the alterations to the scholarship renewals. As the Student Union, we make it our business to advocate for the students and to help, not only with their transition into their post-secondary education but also their continued well-being while they call Nipissing their home. These updated scholarships help achieve both," said Jordan Andrews, president of the Nipissing University Student Union.
