Residence Waitlist Questions

What date will I know if I have a spot in Residence?

There is not a specific date that we can provide a student of when they may receive notice of placement. We process applications and cancellations on a daily basis, and as spaces become available in Residence we will notify the next suitable candidate on the waitlist based on the application preferences and gender/cohort of the suite where there is a vacancy.

I’m in a roommate group, are my roommates also on a waitlist?

Not necessarily, each residence application is considered on an individual basis, therefore the other members of your group may have received a placement or may have also been added to the waitlist depending on when their application became complete.

I was put on a waitlist, but the other members of my roommate group received a placement. Will I be placed with them if I receive a placement?

We will do our best to place you with your roommate group if space is available, however we may not be able to guarantee you a placement within your preferred roommate group.

What number am I on the waitlist?

We do not provide a number to a student on a waitlist because there are too many variables involved in placing a student. For example, if a male identified Bachelor of Education student is at the top of the waitlist, and a space becomes available in a suite that is occupied by 3 female identified students coming directly from high school, we would not be able to place that male identified student in the suite and we would have to go down the list until we find a suitable candidate that matches the other student's living preferences, gender and cohort.

We will organize the waitlist based on the application completion date and students will be considered for any suitable placement based on their position on the list.

If I get a spot, how will I be notified?

We will contact you via email. We encourage you to continue to check your email account regularly to ensure that you provide a timely response should there be a placement offer made to you.

How long will I have to make a decision if I am offered a placement?

If we reach out to you informing you that you have a spot in Residence, you will have 48 hours to inform us of your decision. If we do not receive a response from you within 48 hours, your offer will expire and your name will go back on the waitlist.

I am a student applying directly from high school, how am I on a waitlist?

Students who are applying directly from high school are guaranteed a spot in Residence if they submit their application and pay their deposit by the June 3rd deadline. If you did not submit your application or pay your deposit by June 3rd you may have been put on our waitlist. Please reach out to our admissions team at residence@nipissingu.ca to inquire as to why you have been placed on a waitlist.

What refund am I entitled to if I cancel?

If you cancel your 2024/25 application prior to receiving a placement notification you will be entitled to a $370 refund, as there is a $30 non-refundable application fee.

If you are offered a placement or notified that you have secured a placement in Residence and you decline it, you are only entitled to receive a $100 refund (damages deposit).

I am a supporter of a student; can I contact you about my student?

We would be happy to answer any general questions that you as a supporter might have about living in Residence, however due to our privacy policy we are unable to speak with a third party regarding the status of a student’s application or their status in Residence. Please ask the student to reach out to us directly and we would be happy to answer their questions.

Is my erezlife receipt number my number on the waitlist?

When you submit your application you will receive a receipt number.  This is not your number on the waitlist, it is only a receipt that you have submitted your application.
