Perfect post-Easter discussion

The latest installment of Nipissing’s Award Winners Speaker Series is a perfect fit following Easter weekend. Titled Healing Hospitality: Spiritual Care for Life and Death, it features Dr. Susan Srigley, Chair of Nipissing’s Religions and Cultures program, Tuesday, April 2at 7 p.m. in the Harris Learning Library. All religious traditions speak to the mystery of death and its spiritual power. In the West, the hospice movement began behind monastery walls, where ill travellers stopped for hospitality. The sick were given physical and spiritual comfort, and the dying were recognized as essential guides for the living. The collected wisdom from this healing hospitality became known as the Ars Bene Moriendi - The Art of Dying Well. Dr. Susan Srigley (Religions and Cultures), a palliative care volunteer who teaches courses on Death, Dying and Spirituality, will discuss the practices of spiritual care and the art of dying well.
The presentation is free of charge and all are welcome.
The Award Winners Speakers Series was introduced this year in celebration of the university’s 20th anniversary as an independent degree granting institution. The series features Nipissing faculty who have earned a prestigious Research Achievement Award, speaking about their work.
