HOURS OF WORK:                       Up to 20 hours per week

RATE OF PAY:                                 Minimum Wage plus Vacation Pay as determined by HR Policy

JOB DESCRIPTION:        

The International Student Support (ISS) Student Assistants provide front desk coverage to welcome students dropping in and help with making the ISS Student Lounge a welcoming space. They assist with the transition process for international students, exchange students as well as the sponsored refugee student. They assist with the coordination and promotion of International Student Mentorship Program (ISMP) and World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Local Committee events and activities, as well as, updating departmental policies and procedure documentation. They help with recruiting ISMP mentors for the academic year. Student Assistants help with planning and preparation for Winter International Student Orientation and arrival pick-up. They also help manage the ISS social media pages. They will also provide support to the needs of prospective international students in the recruitment and admission processes.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

The International Student Support (ISS) Student Assistant will assist with the following:

  • Assist with front desk coverage
  • Assist in the transition process for international students
  • Working with the WUSC committee to assist on campaigns and initiatives including planning, recruitment and promotion
  • Assist ISMP programming, promotion of events as well as recruitment of new mentors. 
  • Clerical support for ISMP and WUSC
  • Communication with mentors and mentees via email, Teams, social media with departmental information
  • Planning for Winter International Student Orientation (January)
  • Updating departmental policies and procedure
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have completed at least one-year of studies at Nipissing University
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
  • G Driver License preferred
