The School of Nursing at Nipissing University has been awarded a $105,000 grant from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario to become a recognized Best Practice Spotlight Organization.

Best Practice Spotlight Organizations (BPSOs) are health-care and academic organizations selected by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) to implement and evaluate the RNAO's best practice guidelines.

Nipissing will utilize the funding to integrate clinical best practice guidelines into the curriculum through courses and learning activities, as well as through simulation activities in each of its programs.  The funding will enhance each of the School’s Nursing opportunities, including the RPN to BScN Bridging and Collaborative Nipissing University-Canadore College Bachelor of Science programs, the RPN to BScN Blended Learning Program, and the Scholar Practitioner Program.

“Thank you to the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario for this investment in our university, our students, our faculty and our School of Nursing,” said Arja Vainio-Mattila, Provost and Vice-President Academic and Research at Nipissing. “The recognition and the designation as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization is a testament to the quality of the School of Nursing at Nipissing.  It will enhance our current curriculum, and our students and graduates will be recognized as Best Practice Champions. Congratulations to the Nursing faculty who worked on the proposal. Through their expertise, passion and hard work, they are actively making this institution and this community a better place.”

“This funding will help us to provide the very best in clinical training to our students and better respond to and meet the needs of our community. By implementing five specific Best Practice Guidelines over the next three years, we intend develop strong positive impact on student success, faculty research, and most importantly, patient outcomes. We are very grateful to the RNAO for this amazing opportunity,” said Dr. Karey McCullough, Director of the School of Nursing at Nipissing University.
